Plasmonics

We are working on designing, fabricating, characterizing and applying plasmonic surfaces to sensing and imaging. Particularly, we have fabricated high sensitivity surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) substrates for single molecule level sensing and imaging. We are also working on designing infrared plasmonic resonances that may find application in surface enhanced Infrared Absorption spectroscopy and bolometric detection. Also, we have recently demonstrated label-free superresolved imaging using wide area high performance SERS substrates.

Atomic Force Microscopy and Nanomechanical Characterization

We are working on developing and applying techniques for multifrequency atomic force microscopy (AFM) and nanomechanical characterization using the AFM. We developed spectroscopic techniques for observation and characterization of charging of nanocomposite surfaces. We also developed a high throughput technique for mechanical characterization at the nanoscale. We are applying nanomechanical characterization techniques to biological samples and supramolecular samples.

Optoelectronic Properties and device applications of nanomaterials

We are investigating the optoelectronic properties of novel and nanoscale materials. As an example, we discovered electrochromic effects in graphene oxide. We also study memory devices that use graphene and silicon/germanium nanocrystals as storage media.
